    Sata data cable will also have a signal ground. The sense resistor is bypassed, and worse, the power return is routed through the data cable instead of the power cable.

    Can be avoided by using a completely separate power supply for the hard disk. In fact that is the only way to prevent any interaction.

    What are you going to use to ensure the disk is properly loaded?

  • Hi Cranky , I completely agree with you. The above schematic is for my old IDE HDD which i’ll be using as a Ginnie pig and yes I’ll be using external power supply for powering the HDD. For final design I’ll be using High-Side sensing , just in case HDDs have problems with slightly lifted ground in Low-side sensing and also for the fact that HDDs use two different voltage inputs.
